ma!
MAN: The internet is such a lovely place, my boy, only four gold coins to enter!
BOY: It sounds so lovely! But so expensive…
MAN: Well, my boy, it’s such a lovely place to go!
MOTHER: Child! Get to your room, who is that at the door?
BOY: A salesman, ma! He’s talking about the internet!
MOTHER: Oh my, well enough of that, you get ready for bed.
MAN: Hello, ma’am, I am-
MOTHER: I know who you are, and I’ve heard enough, thank you for your time, good night.
[After preparing for bedtime, the Mother and Boy discuss what the Man spoke to the Boy about.]
MOTHER: And that’s what he told you, son?
BOY: Yes, mama. May I go?
MOTHER: I forbid you to go the internet. It’s a damned crazy place, and I’ll say, you’ll get lost and I’ll never be able to find you.
BOY: But Mama! The man said I can use the Search to help me around.
MOTHER: Hush, child. It’s time to go to bed.
BOY: Have you ever been there, Mama?
MOTHER: Many times, child. There were many things I sought after in my youth, and I believed a man just like the one that talked with you. So I Searched.
BOY: What was it like Ma?
MOTHER: Like…entering into a room that at once is changed into an ocean that becomes a world…like climbing a set of stairs to a 2nd level, only to find the level moves ever upward, and the stairs increase with it…but you want it to keep increasing.
BOY: Sounds like a mighty strange place.
MOTHER: It was. And still is.
BOY: What did you find there?
MOTHER: I found…that I was searching for the wrong things.
BOY: Whaddya mean, Ma?
MOTHER: Shh, go to bed now, son. We need to wake up early tomorrow, and it’s long past your bed time already.
BOY: Okay. Will you tell me about the internet again tomorrow?
MOTHER: Okay, I will.
BOY: But do you-
MOTHER: Yes, I promise, son. I promise I will. But enough! Good night, my child.
BOY: Good night, mother.
